Career switch from HR/Recruitment to IT?

Post Body

I've been contemplating about this for quite a while now. My current job is in recruitment for 9 years; However I've always had the interest for anything related to software dev/programming/automation. While a job in recruitment is also fulfilling and stable, I felt that the opportunities to grow and earn more is quite limited - unless I wanted to move up the career ladder and/or focus on a very sales-sy kind of recruitment work (i.e., headhunting or executive search) - which I don't see myself going to.

This is probably because I grew up with brothers who all have IT background, plus had the chance to dabble in programming back in high school when I had C and Visual Basic lessons. It was an amazing feeling to see my codes I've written come to life. I didn't get to practice it though, because I eventually decided to take up Psychology in Uni.

I guess the question I have in mind is.. Where and how to start, and what tech stack/specialisation looks promising from a future demand perspective? What I have so far is that I know a couple of more advanced Excel functions - enough to semi-automate some of the trackers/reports we have in our team. I also do have background in creating process flowcharts using MS Visio and writing operations/process manuals. I also try to study Excel VBA from our company's internal learning resources whenever I have the time.
