I have been working in Talent Acquisition/Recruitment for more than 8 years now. While I have a stable career in the field, I've always been wanting to make the switch and try something new. I've already expressed this with my boss for a couple of years now and they were supportive of it. I told them that I'd be interested in switching to roles related to training/L&D; However there hasn't been that much opportunities in our company to transfer internally in that department. The closest I've been doing is being active in our L&D community at work and taking additional responsibility of creating training plans, as well as facilitating sessions.
Applying externally has proven to be harder as well, since of course most companies will get people who already have previous related background... Which is understandable, especially if you want someone who should be able to hit the ground running. I even asked to be referred by people in my network to such roles, and to customise my resume so that my training experience gets highlighted.... Still, to no avail.
I'm just a bit frustrated and wanted to get this out of my chest in a safe space like here. I cannot put myself out there (like self-advertising on LinkedIn or Facebook) because I don't want to jeopardise my current job.
Has anyone experienced this? And how do you deal/have dealt with it?
PS: Shameless plugging portion goes here, I guess. LOL.. So if anyone from the Philippines reads this and knows an opportunity in L&D that's open to career shifters like me, let's talk. :)
