I (26m) currently work in medical 3rd party collections and I hate talking to people and trying to collect from them. People yell at me, I hear old people cry, my company is introducing a system that listens for certain phrases that measures how empathetic you were and if you asked enough probing questions. Commission will be partially based on this. I spend 81% of my workday in an active call.
My previous jobs were in manufacturing, grocery and private security. I like working in an office and I make okay money at around $17/hr. I don't have a degree and most of the other things I can find would be a pay cut and still in a call center. I'm considering medical coding or billing. Medical coding can pay better and just requires certification, but it seems nearly impossible to find an entry level job. I don't know what else I could do that would pay the same or better, be in an office and require less time on the phone.
