I have had a job for the last about 3 years as a (not sure of the term) personal handyman for a gentleman. But the job is coming to an end which has its pros and cons. The work is far from my home and having two young kids it sucks not being home....but money is super tight so lose of income is not a good thing.
I have learned over the years ...some experience prior to this job...how to do everything from the roof to the foundation...and we live around a bigger city (outskirts of Houston,tx) so I thought it would be a good opportunity to start my own handyman business. Richer people will pay good money for simple tasks. And also I have learned ways to work alone ...ie I have replaced 3 shingled roofs alone and currently on a sheetrock job alone.
But my girlfriend is not so keen on the idea...she has admitted she doesn't have much of a business mind so the idea scares her...she wants me to get a regular hourly job...but I have tried to explain the benefits of running a small business...and i pay most of the bills in the house and think I won't make enough at some hourly job
But the biggest hurdle is we only have one car and she goes to college so it would end up being alot of driving...but I feel that if I don't jump at this idea now I may not ever be able to do it and I am kinda tired of working for other people while they get the big check that I could be getting...
So should I get a regular hourly job till later? Or be a hardhead and keep pushing the handyman idea?
