I was searching and I saw "career guidance" and thought I wonder what they think... maybe someone knows something different...(my apologizes for the long post but a finger in the right direction would really help
I have a job right now and can't come up with a good name for my job title...or how I would even describe it on a resume...
My duties are so vage and all over the place.
I work for a guy/family who use to run a body shop that is connected to his house...not a garage...a full two building shop with all the tools...with a door that goes into his house.
He has not been fixing cars for quite sometime now but projects do arise (people with a shop can tell you there is always something to be done/fixed)...the best thing I have come up with is I am a "personal handyman"
In one day I can go from sheet rocking in the morning at a rental property to fixing a sink's plumbing (in the shop or house or apartments...) before lunch...fixing/rewiring a trailer after lunch and finishing the day doing yard maintenance (cutting, fertilizer, tree trimming...etc)...and in there somewhere I could help unload groceries or vacuum the pool...
Couples days later I could be patching an asphalt shingle roof...or pressure washing a drive way or the 2 story apartments he owns
The list is endless and pretty 5 or more days out of the week I am by myself because he has a daily job to go to...but tells me what he wants done or a least the projects of day/week...have worked for him for many years so I know how he likes things...
I like my job but my girlfriend and I had to move so she could go to a certain school but the drive/being away from home and 2 young kids is gettibg tough so looking for a new job...
Would like a job similar but don't know what to search for... I have seen stuff like "apartment maintence manager" but doesnt seem to fit everything I do...and would prefer a more personal boss/job...
Is there a career name or path for this kind of job? How do I list duties on a resume?
(Not sure if it helps...and this post is long enough..my apologies...
To add to what I can do...
I am more than a helper who just replaces a piece of plumbing...i know how to run new plumbing or put in a whole new sink...
I don't just unload and put in a new washining machine but can fix one too...
Pretty good at computers and can wire the house...
I am usually doing hands on dirty construction projects and also know how be professional when needed...
Unfortunately I am not "certified" in anything and no college....highschool grad 3.2 ...all taught by someone or self taught... 31 years old
Thought about starting a handyman business but no extra income currently for tools and stuff))
Thanks for any advise
