Sup reddit. How do I make a career transition to HR?
Post Body

Ok so in the past decade my work experience includes retail supervisor (Best Buy) tech support mgr for a mom and pop sign shop and a banker for us bank. I’m currently working in subrogation for a surety. It’s a fancy of way of saying I’m a debt collector.

While the job has decent benefits and decent pay (38k) it’s nowhere I need/want to be anymore. It’s dead end with no real room for advancement and my boss is starting to become a bit too much for me. After almost 3 years I want out.

I’m not sure how to market my skills to a career in HR considering I have no previous experience in HR specific jobs. I have glommed HR knowledge over the years from my stints in mgmt (meal break laws in CA, scheduling my teams to be in compliance, sick leave vs PTO, OT and such) and now I need a bit of guidance on how to show case my experiences in a better light suited to HR.

I thought I’d ask the internet for advice. Maybe someone who’s done something similar in the past. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
