Hello everyone so I need some real world advice. I'm young at 26yrs old and have a wife and kids and need a stable income to support my family. No I'm not talking about $10hr because honestly we all know that's not going to pay the bills.
My background is lawn care/horticulture as I owned my own business and worked at a few lawn treatment companies. My last venture was my own business and I brought on a business partner and he was a friend and ended up taking advantage of me and I ended up going out of business as I was honestly tired of it and the instability that comes with owning a lawn treatment business.
I wanted a career that would benefit myself as well as my family. I really liked doing my own website and my wife's business site and I made the jump and went to a coding boot camp that verbally agreed to help me get a job after and well they haven't helped. They got my money and that's it. I was one of the best in my class and still almost a year later jobless. Partly because there's too many fish in the sea that do have tons of experience and partly because I'm having to focus a lot on applying to jobs instead of working on my skills. I have a family to support so I can't just sit for months trying to learn more with hopes of finding a job.
I'm asking for real advice. Please don't sugar coat it. I've been told these coding boot camps are what they are and I fell for it. No guarantee of a job as they just want my money and honestly I fell for it as do many others. I have class mates that are still jobless as well so it's not just me. I don't have Years to build a portfolio and do free or cheap projects to increase my chances.
I don't want to go back to lawn care as I have my reasons such as I can't afford to work for $12hr which is the going rate for a lawn tech and really don't want to be outside all of my life working for pennies.
I've thought about going to a flight school such as atp flight school to become an airline pilot. They guarantee a cfi job that pays $40k yr roughly and seem to be transparent with the process of getting hired at an airline (takes 2yrs of being a cfi) which id be okay with. But I'll also be $70k in debt but I'll have a log book to show my skills and proficiency and have some real world skills. Before you ask yes I've flown before. I have 32hrs towards my private license ppl but couldn't afford to finish at the time. I do know it would be stable as everyone travels and once I make it to an airline I'd be set. At first things would be tough with scheduling and all but like I said once I get a year in at a regional I'd be set.
I've also considered doing forex trading. I have a few people in my network that do it and make good money. Well great money and have given me access to over 40 videos to take me from not knowing anything to apparently a very good trader. Of course there would be no benefits and not a stable income. But something I have considered.
Other than them two options I'm out of ideas. I can't really afford to attend college to get a BS computer science degree as the college itself would be pricey as well as I'd have to probably take an extra year to catch up on classes to qualify for the computer science track. So realistically 5yrs of college and no income. Just doesn't seem logical for my situation. I know the atp flight school course is 180 days and I'd be a cfi making money and I've talked to a few smaller airports locally and they are always hiring cfis as most work there for a year or so then transition to an airline.
Once again these are just my ideas and I'm seeking brutally honest input. I'm okay with taking out a student loan to learn if that's what it'll take to get a real job making more than $12hr.
