Am I the problem at my job or is it the environment, or both?
Post Body

Hi all.

I've been at my job for two years at a finance company doing a lot of data entry style stuff mixed in with phone calls here and there. I am making increasingly more mistakes, such as typos, forgetting to fill in templates and sending out an email, forgetting to click buttons, etc. The company is patient with these kinds of things but everyone is noticing mistakes are occurring more frequently and I'm worried I'll be fired soon. I think the main problem is the company has really grown, and we have more and more customers which means more and more work for my 40-hour workweek.

I have mentioned we need another helper or maybe even two, and they have not hired anyone to help out. They tell me to slow down, but the problem is I can't go too slow because things will not be put in on time because things come in last minute and there's a mad rush to get things in. I think they've doubled the amount of customers we have since I've started.

People on the team are now calling out my mistakes, cc'ing my boss, etc, saying DO NOT DO THIS in all caps in emails, etc. I get why, but at the same time I can't work at a comfortable pace with things flying in, especially last minute. I try to find ways to be quicker but at the end of the day I can only do so much. It's also a lot of manual data entry and working with faxed paper forms as well.

I am not sure if it's really my fault or not so just seeking some input here. I have gotten a lot better on key areas, but there's always one area where I make a mistake and so it looks like I am not paying attention. We have a lot of forms and data coming in, and I'm processing about 30 IDs a day manually, 25 information forms, and dozens of emails and other things. To me this seems like a lot because 30 IDs x 5 is 150, and multiply that by 52 and there's a lot of room for mistakes.

Just curious about anyone's thoughts. Thanks!
