When writing your resume, focus on explaining why you did something rather than just listing what you did. Employers are more interested in the purpose and impact of your actions because it shows strategic thinking and the value you bring to the organization. Start each bullet point with a strong action verb to immediately capture attention. Then, explain the purpose behind your actions and how they align with broader organizational goals. For example, instead of saying, “Organized weekly team meetings,” try, “Organized weekly team meetings to enhance collaboration and ensure alignment on project goals.” Always aim to highlight measurable outcomes, such as “Streamlined invoice processing to reduce errors by 20%, improving vendor satisfaction and payment efficiency.” Whenever possible, tie your responsibilities to larger team or company objectives to showcase your understanding of the bigger picture. To generate impactful content, use the STAR method by considering the situation, task, action, and result for each experience. By emphasizing the purpose and impact of your work, your resume will come across as thoughtful, results-oriented, and compelling.
