For preface, I’m a 26 year old male living in Colorado with a wife and 3 kids.
I’m looking for career advice as I have been presented with a choice. Right now I’m a diesel mechanic at FedEx and I make $35/hr with a lot of overtime opportunities and a lot of room for raises. I’ve been a mechanic my entire adult life but I’m not sure that’s what I want for the rest of my life. Something that I’ve always wanted to do was law enforcement and I’ve finally been given that opportunity. Unfortunately for me it’s at $26.50 an hour, little to no overtime and a 45 minute commute vs my 10 min I currently have. Of course after being there a while I could transfer to a closer dept.
My family lives a very good lifestyle with little budgeting and we save $500 a week. With that, what do you think? Should I follow something that could lead to some job satisfaction? Should I stay in my current position with room for growth and development opportunities?
