I've had to truly reassess my life situation recently. I know in the short term my job is probably going to release me due to medical conditions and looming surgery (I'm contract to hire so while unethical, it's probably not Wrongful Term.). Most of my background is in CSR type roles, working in Inside Sales/Support, Credit/Collections, as well as 5 years in IT Helpdesk Support (No certs). I also have 8 years of early work history in Warehouse environments, mostly Medical Equipment and Medications, with 2 of those being Forklift certified, but due to physical limitations I can't see that being a viable possibility. Looming Surgery will certainly leave my voice altered (assuming I'm still able to speak), and since it's my Jaw they would be repairing, speaking as a mandatory part of my job (on phones) seems like it would directly put me at risk of re-injuring day in/day out.
IT/Chat support is a possibility, but we all know that market is highly sought after, and competition is fierce. While I have the experience, I don't have the certifications that usually would make someone's resume pop. I've looked into Medical Coding and Billing, but see mixed reviews where some people find immediate placement, and some sit for 2 years with a certification that they never end up using, along with debt. I've also considered trying to get in with USPS in a Mail Sorting position, and would need to take my Civil Service exam for them. Does anyone have suggestions for Jobs (Careers) preferably that I can/should look into? I'm trying to be proactive and have my options on the table before it's a necessity. I'm old enough that I have a solid work history and Resume, but young enough (38) that I still have plenty of time to make a career out of something instead of just collecting checks until I retire or croak. I'd like to figure this out sooner rather than later because I prefer not to spend the rest of my life bouncing from paycheck to paycheck.
TIA
