I lost the first job, after a decade at the same company, for taking short term disability to do a course of chemo for the severe vasculitis that nearly took my right leg. It was the first time I was ever fired and it shattered me. Took eight months to find a new job.
The "new" job paid to relocate me, which was perfect cuz I was going thro a divorce and he took the house. A month after I moved I found out I had cancer. Worked thro three months of chemo that didn't work. Took only four weeks off for short term disability to get adjusted to the much stronger chemo regimen I was starting. Fired after the first week. Ended up losing everything and now I'm homeless with nothing while I go thro chemo back in my home state.
I'm a month away from finishing treatment, I need to find a job ASAP as I have zero dollars in my bank account and a dwindling since of hope.
It took me so long to find that job and explain away the gap in employment I had. Now I have two giant gaps that I have no idea how to explain and false reasons for being let go. I do not know what to do and I'm very worried I will not be able to find a job for another eight months or longer. Last time I would get offers for jobs but then it came to speaking with HR, suddenly these companies would completely stop communicating with me. This happened not just once but five times before I finally found someone who followed through.
How do I explain the two large holes?
How should I approach my health with prospective employers?
Can HR somehow see I was fired for health issues, even though they cited completely different made up reasons?
How do I explain to my prospects that I was not fired for "lack of commination" like the last company made up??
Am I screwed?
Thank you for your advice!!
