How many rounds of interviews are normal or acceptable?

Post Body

I just finished my fourth round interview with a company for a director-level position. First was technically an HR screening; second was with the person who'd be my boss; third with 2 people who'd be on my team; and the fourth was with 2 would-be peers. For the fourth they asked me to create a presentation, which I didn't even present. At the end I asked about next steps, and they suggested there could be 2 more rounds! They have already taken up 3½ hours of my time, excluding the time to make the dang presentation. Is all this really necessary??
