I officially cleaned out my classroom today (way harder than I thought it would be) and have decided to leave education. I won’t bore you with the reasons because they’re very similar to many others on here. (Side note: the uptick in male on female student violence and physical threats from students towards me have increased over the last two years). My health began to suffer and I began self-medicating with alcohol…it was not on a good trajectory.
Some context: I’m 42, not married, no kids. I have about $28,000 saved so I have time but would rather not burn through it all just surviving. I’m willing to relocate as well.
From anyone who’s been through this: any tips or advice? Part of me is coping with the loss of my career, even though it’s my choice.
