Post Body

I went to University in Toronto. I have a 4 bachelors degree in Film Studies but Iā€™ve spent many years since graduation bouncing around and working odd jobs. I graduated about 9 years ago. Mostly crappy customer service jobs and I honestly canā€™t even work in customer service anymore. Iā€™m totally burnt out from that line of work and really want to move on.

I do work in film production as a self employed person but, the income I make from it is unpredictable and not enough for me to get by. Itā€™s tough to find jobs in the film industry in Toronto, and even then, itā€™s all gig work. The economy is rough and being a gig worker isnā€™t going to cut it for me at this moment in time. So Iā€™ve essentially been doing all my film-related stuff (including as much networking as I can) in my free time. I just currently need a day job to stick to for a while so I can save money. The good thing is, I live at home still - so I can at least try to save as much money as I can.

I go online everyday to find work. I even try to find full-time corporate video jobs thatā€™s inline with my film production skills. I apply to them all the time, but theyā€™re of course super competitive. Iā€™m just trying to find a day job that I can hang onto as a primary source of income until I can have more financial freedom to figure more things out.

Does anyone have any advice in terms of trying to transition into something else that isnā€™t in the customer service field? I was considering a trade, but they all require going to a college of some sort and earning a licence. Iā€™m a very tech savvy person and a fast learner. I suppose that isnā€™t saying much in the times we live in.

Lately, Iā€™ve been making all of my income doing app jobs like Amazon Flex and Instacart. Itā€™s good that youā€™re able to make money easily doing those things, but the wear and tear on your personal vehicle starts to get costly over time. Constantly relying on self employed app jobs gets really taxing too. Would be nice to have paid vacation days and some kind of dental benefits for a change. Iā€™m constantly working these jobs and I really feel exhausted by them and especially feel like Iā€™m wasting time.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

EDIT:

Forgot to mention, I took a cybersecurity course during the initial lockdown. I didnā€™t end up passing the CompTIA exam on the first try. I ended up abandoning it but Iā€™d be open to go back to it but I barely remember anything I studied now. I took a free full time program through an organization in Canada called NPower. It was called ā€œJunior Security & QA Analystā€. I have a certificate of completion of finishing the course but I donā€™t have the IT certification.
