Anyone ever tried sleeping on a queen, foam, mattress topper folded in half?

I need a comfortable way to sleep, and I really don't want to buy an air mattress. They always leak, eventually.
There are roll up mattresses on Amazon, but they look pretty sad. Like they really wouldn't provide much comfort.
I'm a side sleeper with some back issues. Just curious if anyone has made or tried a DIY type of mattress using foam toppers.
