Minor accident help
Post Body

I very lightly brushed a car while parking at Costco. So light that when I got out of the car to see if there was any damage I couldnā€™t see any. My car didnā€™t have any marks either. The owner of the other vehicle came, I accepted fault. The other party wanted 500$ for ā€œdamagesā€. I thought that was ridiculous since the damage is not even a scratch on the rubber portion above the tires. I said Iā€™ll pay 200$ cash and am happy to refer him to a place that would fix it for that amount. He was adamant about wanting $500 since thatā€™s what his deductible is. I thought it wasnā€™t fair. I work from home and probably drive 10 miles a month and so did not maintain car insurance. I stay in California and itā€™s expensive here. I know Iā€™m supposed to have car insurance. Iā€™m wrong for not having it. I had a copy of the insurance from two months ago which shows the policy runs through next year but I cancelled it recently and so at the time of the accident I didnā€™t have insurance. I shared the policy that I had cancelled with the other party. I also shared my driver license. When I asked them for their license they refused to share it and didnā€™t share their insurance info either. Both parties left the scene without getting cops involved so thereā€™s no police report. The guy filed a claim on the spot with his insurance and didnā€™t want cash when I offered. Now itā€™s been four days since the incident and I havenā€™t received any call from any insurance company about the incident. The other party had my contact number and license and still have not contacted me. Their insurance mustā€™ve reached out to mine and realized I donā€™t have the insurance since I cancelled the policy.

What should I expect to happen next ? Does the event hold any weight if thereā€™s no police report? What can I do from my end besides maintain insurance going forward ? Will the other party sue me? Sharing a pic of his car. Thereā€™s some white scratch on the rubber portion right above the tire but thatā€™s it. Thereā€™s no damage to the actual car metal or body. My car has no scratches at all. Should I expect to get sued by this guy? I noticed yesterday he saw my LinkedIn profile and heā€™s a corporate attorney. Does that complicate the situation ? What should I expect to happen ?
