Recommendation for EF lens - EF 50 f1.2 vs. 24-70 f2.8.

Post Body

Hey guys, I’m looking for a lens recommendation. I currently have the EF 45 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8 III. I’m shooting on the 5DS and have a 5DmkIV on the way. I’m skipping the current generation of mirrorless for now. I love both of the lenses for family moment photos and landscapes, and they let me work creatively if I’m being more deliberate with my compositions. I’m looking for a lens recommendation for what’s next.

My daughter is six months old and I want to keep capturing artistic family moments with her. The dreamy effect and bokeh has me seriously lusting for the EF 50 1.2, especially since the 2.8 aperture doesn’t give me enough wiggle room indoors.

I’m also planning a new instagram cooking page (closeups of chopping, stovetop sizzling, plating, nothing wide angle, with background blur) and was hoping for one new lens to cover me for both the artistic portrait side and the videography side.

Alternatively, I’m thinking about what everyone calls the workhorse EF lens, the 24-70 f2.8, although that doesn’t solve my occasional indoor low light problem.

Any personal success stories, strong recommendations? Thank you for any advice.
