St. Regis Wilderness, NY?

Anyone been up there to do that? I am looking for adventures for next year.
Considering simply using an outfitter, driving up, and going with paid shuttle: Canoe & Kayak Rentals | St. Regis Canoe Outfitters This is not something I normally do, am more of an independent sort! But they have pack canoes and such.
Experience? Recommendations? Alternative areas?
