Keep & move my old canoe, or dump & get new?
Post Body

How much better are new canoes than old canoes? Attempting to decide whether mine is worth carrying up and figuring out what to do with, or leave it with someone else in the South and get a boat more suited to Illinois rivers and the shores of Lake Michigan.

Current canoe 17' aluminum Grumman from who knows when, a bit beat from having a Pinto roll over on it and being squished, then pushed into shape. But it's able to carry camping gear and such. A mild pain to carry up, but I won't go two-up touring and traveling for a year at least.

I'll be in Chicago, so the boundary waters are much more near than here, and I don't believe the Grumman is the best for that.

On the other hand, I own it. What should my budget be for a light, boundary waters type 2 person canoe?

Anyway, help me think this through. I've offered it to my kids, but no response. I could also just dump it on my FIL in Illinois, then borrow it when needed.

What's it worth? $100?

Thanks so much!
