Question on wick size and citronella

Hi - I'm not actually a candle maker, but would like to make some for a friend as a gift. I want to re-use some 5oz jars I have (very clean) and pour citronella in them for outdoor use. 1) is that possible? Do I just buy a citronella candle and melt it down in a double boiler and pour in?

2) I dont really understand how to choose what wick to use. I am open to the stick? type or the string? type.
