So last night my fiance and I were walking back to our hotel from Coco Bongo when we were pulled up by two cop cars. Three officers got out, asked for ID, asked if I was carrying drugs (I wasnt) then asked me to empty my pockets. After that they grabbed the bottle of tequila I had which the staff at Coco Bongo told me to take home with me and were threatening something because I was carrying a bottle of alcohol. They then changed their mind and were saying that I pissed in public, which I didn't, and that I'd need to go back to the station and either pay a fine or spend 36 hours in jail. One was speaking to me while the other was wavering the handcuffs as if I was going to be handcuffed. After a few min of them speaking in Spanish, they asked me for 4000 pesos. I really didn't know what would happen if I didn't, so I went and withdrew it from the ATM and gave it to them and off they went.
This brings me to ask, God forbid you needed their help, which is what police are there for, would they demand money before actually helping you?
Lesson learnt last night, probably stick to the resort at night and if I am out don't carry alcohol which obviously drew attention.
Looking forward to returning to Cancun, but the Mexican cops can go fuck themselves the little midgets!
Adios!
