Severance Negotiation Advice
Post Body

Backstory: I am a 2 years full time remote employee. I was let go today due to "restructuring" however there is clear case for Retaliation as I had last quarter complained that the duties I was responsible for were not in line with my title (supervisor) and my salary deserved renegotiation.

Their offer:

2 weeks notice'

2 weeks severance.

Not honoring remaining 6 days vacation owing.

The issue- it is a European company operating in Canada and the US in the tech industry.

More issues: My leverage is my industry knowledge, as well as a knowledge of clear violations of FCC and TCPA compliance issues as well as potential investor fraud which was flagged to management numerous times.

The severance agreement has clear non competes, and other jargon which would protect them from this type of knowledge being publicized.

I just want a fair severance package, but will need to throw a bit of shit to get it unfortunately.

What I need:

If you are a lawyer/ have experience in severance pay negotiations-

How can I present my counter offer without sounding like I am blackmailing them?

I am trying to connect with a lawyer for a consultation, I would prefer not needing a lawyer to fully represent me, as I wouldnt be seeking an obscene amount. But I dont mind paying for someone's time to review the contract.

Mostly I guess I am yelling into the abyss hoping it resonates with someone who could point me in the right direction
