I know this is an insanely broad question, and if there's a better sub for this, please let me know.
I'm rapidly approaching a point in my career where my free time and flexibility to travel will greatly diminish, so I'm starting to try to check things off my list!
I'm from the US and have hit up many of the big "must-see" sights here (Appalachia, Yellowstone, Sequoias, Adirondacks, Grand Canyon, etc...) and will tick off a large number more this year, hopefully (Bryce, Zion, Arches, Glacier, etc...).
I'd like to expand a bit and explore further up into Canada, but I confess to being completely ignorant of the possibilities, beyond the (forgive me) stereotypical "cabin in a pine forest on a lake while fishing" that I see on TV. That actually sounds fantastic, but a few hours of googling and looking around and I just feel lost trying to sort through all of the different possibilities - Canada is a big place after all.
So I was hoping for some recommendations for places to experience the northern (to me) outdoors. Honestly I'm probably looking for some place or places to relax and be alone (or with my travel partner), with good hiking, maybe some fishing, and ample photogenic opportunities. I'd prefer an isolated cabin of sorts, but am not adverse to tent camping (I have relatively full sets of both car camping and backpacking gear).
Budget is modest (Graduate Student salary), but the flight is likely not an issue (frequent flier miles). Would prefer something that could be done on a three or so day schedule - enough not to feel rushed and be able to see everything, but not so much as to make missing a ton of work an issue.
Again, I know this is really broad, but I'd just appreciate some arrows in the right direction that I can narrow my Googling in on!
Cheers!
