.) I don't like Zoe Nightshade, and don't understand the insane bias she has from fans. She's bada** and loyal, sure, but she's basically a Buzzfeed feminist who hates men because of one guy's actions thousands of years ago (with most of her actions done by her own doing mainly, not just Heracles). She also has grooming tendencies, considering she tried to recruit Thalia and Annabeth to the Hunters when they were really young, and did the same with Bianca - who had just been introduced into the Greek world, mind you.
.) Speaking of which, Bianca is a selfish b****. She pretty much abandons Nico once joining the Hunters (her reasoning is understanding, but was still a terrible thing to do). Then, she apparently goes for rebirth, too quickly for Nico to even give her a proper send-off.
.) Solangelo is mediocre to me, and I think the reason it gets so much hype is because it's a gay couple (and because of Nico, but Nico's awesome). Them being gay is pretty much the only thing people seem to hype up about it, and the whole opposites attract thing. But just because there's representation (or some other woke BS) doesn't automatically make it good. ToA made them somewhat better, but the fact that they began so rushed just irks me, and shows Nico's happy ending was unrealistic.
.) Luke deserved better. Personally, I wanted him to either live, or get with Thalia in the end (but that's just me).
.) Silena doesn't deserve the praise given, both in the books and amongst the fandom. The fact that she's seen as an 'indirect' traitor, or is a 'victim' and that she's 'harmless' and 'she redeemed herself in the end' is hypocritical. Luke did all that he did and is seen is vilified (rightly so, but still) but had a justified reason for doing it, even if he went about it the wrong way. Silena essentially simped for Luke and aided in getting other people killed and is given a pass. Like, what?
.) Caleo is terrible, and is (imo) only together because Rick seems to pair practically everybody with someone. It's fine if you like them, but their rushed intro and troubled dialogue in ToA doesn't exactly sell me on them.
.) Magnus Chase is actually cool, you guys are just mean 😂. Those saying he's basically an a**hole and is unfunny... a homeless kid who has a sarcastic wit to rival Percy and Leo... I'm pretty sure he's not going to be all sunshine and flowers (which is ironic). Maybe it's just me, but I found the Magnus Chase books more funny than the early PJO books and the Kane Chronicles.
.) Heracles is misunderstood, and doesn't deserve the hate some of the fandom gives him. Hera screwed him over, Zeus screwed him over, life (aka, the Fates) screwed him over... you get my drift. And the whole deal with him and Zoe had Zoe follow him mostly without convincing of her own will, including getting banished from her home. Besides, credit wasnt given to her for her help because of his 12 Labours (TL;DR, Heracles had revealed he had help on some of his labours, and the king in charge - who's name I can't be bothered to look up - punished him for it).
.) Frank should've died in the Tyrant's Tomb, when facing Caligula or Commodus. Not because I hate him, but because I felt like when the explosion went off in Camp Jupiter, he should've died, or at least been put out of commission. (Kinda feel salty about Jason 😅, but I genuinely think that Frank's brush with death was a bit too 'plot-induced' for me).
.) Piper is bland and boring, and is a failed attempt at the 'I'm not like other girls'. Imo, that schtick was stuck with Annabeth, who somewhat overcame it. Also, imo, she was essentially stuck as Rick's rushed attempt to push some woke agenda at the end of ToA.
.) All of the children of Aphrodite (and the goddess herself) are - imo - represented poorly, or is just shown as pathetic ditzy girls. The only remarkable children of Aphrodite in the whole series are Piper, Silena and Drew. The first 2 I already spoke about, and Drew was the stereotypical mean girl with no character. The rest are either hyper-feminine, or irrelevant (which is also applied to any possible sons she may have). And Aphrodite herself is written as a manipulate ditzy matchmaker (and hyper-feminine like her children, although this sort of makes sense). Also, she's sort of a terrible love goddess, in a sense. The Trojan War was essentially caused by her (and Hera and Athena, now that I recall) and toys with peoples' love life like a bad soap opera, including her children's. Piper had her 1st relationship formed from Hera's manipulation, and was poorly paired with a nobody. Silena simped for Luke - the antagonist traitor - and turned traitor for him while dying as a result for it, and indirectly killing her boyfriend. Also, she's not really impressive outside of her duties. Sure, she's a daughter of Ouranos, and a goddess, but isnt impressive outside of that fact (myth-wise, she's a whore who screws with people's lives and cries when she gets attacked by a mortal, and dips).
.) Ares isn't really all that bad. He's the god of war, sure, but he's essentially the Vegeta of Greek mythology, so not really that threatening. And sure, he was the main 'villain' of the 1st book, but he was manipulated by Kronos. Besides, Zeus and Poseidon are 10x worse than him, so I dont really get why people prefer Poseidon over him.
.) The movies... no, wait. I'm actually saying something different. They're bad. I know this, you know this, everyone knows this. But personally, I dont think it's good that people bully others for being introduced to the fandom via the movies, rather than through the books (not saying everyone does this, just saying that I've seen this happen with some, and if wasn't good.) But if someone says they like the movies, roast the hell out of them (Jks, 😅).
.) For some reading this part (my friends, and they know who they are) chill in the VS debates (amongst other verses, I mean). Y'all need to calm the hell down.
.) Percy got a bit bogged down in HoO. To me, he came off as more of a jock (insistent use of the word 'bro' and the like) and was a bit OOC for some points (e.g. being too eager to meet Heracles given all of the history surrounding him). Also, felt like he and Annabeth were too... not clingy, but I felt like they were emphasized way too much in some places (some would know what I mean).
.) Hestia should've gotten more screen-time.
.) Wish Hades got more of a better rep amongst CHB.
