What are the most reliable VHS-C camcorders to get ?

I recently got a very cool looking untested JVC camcorder, but unfortunately it turned out to be toast.
Thankfully I got it for pretty much nothing, but I'm ready to invest a reasonable amount into a reliable camera that works with VHS-C. Any recommandation ?
