I’ve been really good at not picking my nails (skin picking still needs some discipline)
But I’ve started to encounter a problem. Once my nails get too long the top layer seems to flake/peel off. In the photo above the entire white part is missing some top nail causing a divot. This ends up weakening the nail and it snaps a new days later.
I tend to wear nail polish as it’s helped with the picking. I also oil my cuticles a few times a week when I remember.
Any advice? This is the longest my nails have ever been and I’m loving how they look. But I have such an urge to pick at the mail when the layers start to flake/separate.
use a glass nail file and only file in one direction, from the center of the nail to the sidewall. file without pressure and try to keep the file as close as possible to perpendicular with the nail. generally opt for filing rather than cutting nails. keep them oiled up and moisturize your hands too. avoid putting your fingers in your mouth whether you’re biting or not.
