Hi everybody! I'm currently running Chaosium's "Ripples From Carcosa" and I was wondering if anyone else had encountered this problem.
So I ran the first adventure in the book and noticed that all the fights were... excessive. I had to cut each of the groups of enemies in half, if not more, in order for my PCs to have a chance of surviving the fight, and they still had to run from most fights. Granted, I had a small party of only 3 PCs.
I noticed in the second adventure that the same thing happens. I had a party of 4 PCs, and the book had them up again 12 armed villagers.
I am now running the third adventure with a larger party of 6, and I am wondering if I will still need to adjust the fights so heavily. To be fair, the party is also better equipped for combat. The first combat I looked at has the PCs up against 7 cultists, which seems a little less unfair.
I'm aware Call of Cthulhu tends to have a more "bleak" and "helpless" tone than other TTRPGs, but it feels like every single fight is going to kill my PCs. Are my PCs bad at fighting? Am I too good at fighting? Is the book just weighted harshly? Any input would be appreciated. Thank you!

P.S. I do genuinely like the book! I have a few small criticisms but overall I'm enjoying running it. I'm a Hastur fanboy.
