Are the PCI cables only compatible with certain PSUs or can they be used for another PSU?

Purchased a cable for an RM 850x a while back. May be purchasing a Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 1200W Gold which for whatever reason only comes with 2x PCIe 6 2 connectors. Would the Cablemod PCIe 6 2 that I purchased for the Corsair RM 850x work or no?
