Hello and thank you for reading this post. I'm a 24 year old guy that lives in a rural area in Kentucky. I've always wanted to start my own business, but I can never really settle my mind on what type of business I should get into. As far as the actual scale of this said business goes, I do not mind to go as big or as small as I need to get started. I currently have around 15k that I could put towards this business. I also know some people that may be willing to invest in the right business, but i would probably rather take out a loan from a bank to get started if that was the case.
So I currently work in the parts department of a decent sized car dealership and I make decent money at it, but it's definitely not something I'd like to do the rest of my life. I'm also in college and pursuing a degree in accounting, with plans to get my CPA license eventually, which may be a business for me to start at some point, but not in the near future since I would need quite a bit of experience to be able to run that type of business. Realistically unless I drop out of college or quit my job with the dealership I would have about 3 days a week to commit to this business. Which I have a couple more options like working part time at the dealership, or I also do not care to work early mornings or late nights if possible. It's my typical routine to get up around 5 A.M and I usually don't go to bed until 11 P.M
So now onto my potential ideas and my interest. Ive always been a very hands on person and I'm decent at just about any trade including carpentry, welding, wrenching, and light electrical work. I've grown up on a farm and have deep roots with farming, but the market in my area is already over saturated with agriculture based businesses and I don't really see any needs that need to be met in that industry. I come from a family of good cooks, and I've thought about investing in a food truck, but thats just not really something that I have a interest in. I'm also pretty good at operating equipment, but that market is also over saturated in my area, except for dump truck drivers. I have thought about getting my CDLs and investing in a truck to haul asphalt and gravel, which is a big industry in my area, and it seems that contractors are always looking for dump trucks to haul materials for them. With this idea I would definitely quit my job and make driving my full time job. The biggest downfall to that idea is the cost, just to get my CDL would be around 3000 with a truck driving school that is in my area, and it's also a month long course that's Monday through Thursday. Then beyond the cost of getting my CDL a decent truck would probably run between 150,000 to 200,000 depending on the specs. Another thing I have thought about is building tiny houses and converting old school busses into RVs. With the economy like it is currently I definitely don't see this as a good idea, and I would imagine there would be a long period of time before I seen any profit from this. Thats just a few ideas that I have had but I'm always open to new ideas and suggestions. Im also not scared of hard work and I'm willing to put in as many hours as needed, I really just need a idea that I can run withπ
