Hi. I'm looking for a mid-cycle update to my build (I usually get a new PC every 7-8 years, with a GPU upgrade in-between). Considering going up to the 4000 series. I used to build my own PCs up until a decade or so ago but don't really do it much anymore, and just occasionally follow hardware news. So looking for some validation on my upgrade, and for a mechanically simple swap.
I believe I'll need a larger PSU whether I go 4090 or 4080 (I believe the 4080 power draw hasn't been confirmed independently yet but I'm going to assume 650w isn't going to cut it). I don't want to re-cable everything as TME and I've always been sucky at cable management anyway, so I want to upgrade to a PSU in the same series and just switch out the PSU without re-cabling (I've confirmed with Corsair that the RM650x and RM850x cables are compatible).
- Is my CPU going to be a big bottle neck for gaming after upgrading the GPU? Or any other components for that matter
- My setup won't support direct storage, right (which components decide that?)? Will that also be a bottleneck?
- Am I still going to have some sort of cabling work I didn't think of?
- I know no one can know for sure but with what we're expecting is it likely the 4070 will run off my current PSU?
- Is anything else about my setup going to cause me to miss out on features from the 4000 series (DLSS3, not sure if there's anything else noteworthy).
