Hi all, this seemed like the most appropriate place to ask this. I was building a PC in the near future and was assessing my options in the market as it is right now. Keep in mind, I live in India and pricing here is quite different here, although the GPU market crash has definitely helped a lot in that area. Here goes:
My initial plan had the 3070 in it for a price of ~60000 INR (730 USD roughly), but these plans were pretty early and the market crashed to the point where the cheapest 3070 atm is around 45000 INR (550 USD for Asus KO OEM; it is sold with warranty, just not a proper retail box).
But for the peace of mind thermally (and for the nicer aesthetic), I'll go with something like the Gigabyte Aorus Master 3070 for 55000 INR. There are several other options for Nvidia in the 50000-60000 range as well, lots of various decent-to-good GPUs available there. Brands like Colorful, Gigabyte and Zotac seem pretty common in this range.
However the prices for a few 6800 XT AIB cards has also come down. The Gigabyte Gaming 6800 XT in particular is around 58000 INR, which is sort of within my initial budget now. I see that the performance benefit is definitely something above the 3070 as it is right now, in rasterisation especially, so I can consider this.
My main purposes within gaming are competitive games (yes this would be more than enough for that), but also single player games, and I wanted to make sure that I'll have no issues with running most anything at 1440p and 144Hz on high for the next few years. Ray tracing is not particularly high on my list of applications, but "nice enough" performance is nice to have.
I also wanted to know what I'd lose in terms of additional features, like Nvidia's Shadowplay and DLSS and other stuff that Nvidia has, and perhaps does better, so that if they're too much of a tradeoff, I still can take the 3070 instead.
