Which mobo to keep building on? Help me choose

Post Body

Hi,

I'm so incredibly fortunate that life has spared me two Ryzen AM4 systems -- one to be used for Gaming/Workstation and the other for Server/NAS. I need your help to sort out which motherboard to use for the gaming PC, because that is the one which needs to have the best possible performance.

The hardware:

  • Ryzen 3700x
  • ASUS TUF X570
  • Ryzen 2700x
  • ASUS Crosshair VII Hero (X470)

Now, the obvious choice is to put the 3700x/x570 together in the gaming CPU and keep the 2700x/x470 in the server -- but the x470 mobo is just a really really nice premium motherboard, and can handle any AM4 CPU with room to spare. I just can't get myself to accept that the comparatively "budget" x570 mobo is the better choice to go with the stronger CPU. The plan is to upgrade to a Ryzen 5950x btw.

Some considerations:

  • I don't use any special overclocking/cooling/debugging features of the Crosshair VII Hero (x470)
  • I use an external DAC so the special sound card is irrelevant to me
  • I don't use RGB, athough I have an open case and the motherboards built-in RGB is pretty cool.

Can you please help steer me in the right direction? Which motherboard should I keep for the gaming PC that will be upgraded to Ryzen 9 5950x "later"?
