I will be having enough of a budget to build a workstation (so including a "gaming" chair) worth roughly $6k in about 3 months. The rest of the parts are pretty much locked in for what I'm going to use it for. Only the GPU, Monitor, and chair are to be considered.
In context, I'm not filthy rich, I'm not a Saudi Oil Prince, so while this system will cost me a lot, it's a system I'm planning to run unchanged (maybe some storage upgrades, but that's it) for the next 5 years minimum, and thus for me, this is an invesment for the work I'm doing (as an editor, motion graphics artist, and a light gamer). I'm willing to spend but I'd want to maximize my budget in all the ways I can.
So here is the dilemma:
- If I go with the 3080, I will want to go for the 38 inch 144Hz ultrawide to make full use of it. But I'll have to omit a good chair (Secret Lab Titan Evo 2022) off the list to make the GPU and the 38 inch fit the budget.
- If I suck it up and "settle" (I'm incredibly privileged and thankful to be able to think of this as "settling") for a 3070 and a 34 inch 144Hz ultrawide, I will have enough of a budget to squeeze the SecretLab into the station.
Will the comfort of the "gaming" chair outweigh the performance and screen real estate that a 3080 and a 3840x1600 monitor provide over the course of a minimum of 5 years? Or for a system like this, is it better to just get the best system I can considering the time I'm planning on keeping it for and just settle with my current dining room chair and get a less expensive chair down the line?
I would like to ask for your guys' opinions and advise regarding this matter. I'm running to reddit because to be honest, I don't have many friends to have a meaningful discussion with over this matter. And thank you all in advance for your help regarding this.
