I'm sure the answer is that my graphics card is too old and my display settings knows it, but I thought I'd ask. I just got a new pred monitor, just because my computer needs an all round upgrade, and a new monitor is the easiest to get, and prime day was kind to me. I still have a GTX 970, and will probably have it for quite a while until the GPU market returns to something close to stable again (if it ever does). This is the first good monitor I've ever gotten so I have no idea about all this new stuff. My graphics card definitely can't support 4k 144hz (it doesn't even have 2 DP outputs), but it seems like theoretically it should be able to do 4k at 120hz. However, the Nvidia control panel and the windows display panel won't let me select 120hz at 4k. At 1440p however, I can do 120 AND 144hz no problem. Is there a reason I can't do 120 at 4k though? Are the control panels smart enough to know that my graphics card can't handle it? I have the ACER driver installed btw.
Random other question, do people usually use HDR? I tried it, and it makes desktop use very hard, but Apex Legends looks very good (maybe too good, maybe eye searing levels of color depth). I don't know anyone who has a HDR capable monitor so I have no one to ask if HDR is considered good.
