Building my first PC, finalizing my parts list
Post Body

Hi, so I've started wanting to build my own PC and have done some research into a variety of different parts doing my best to ensure all compatibility and size requirements are alright. I've come to what I think is a mostly final build, but I wanted to maybe get some advice from people who've done this before. I'm gonna start by listing the major components and my decision process behind them, to see if my decision-making process makes sense when it comes to putting my list of parts together.

Motherboard

The motherboard I've chosen is the B550 Tomahawk. Honestly, the motherboard is what I'm most unsure about with my build, as I had no idea where to start with choosing one. After doing some basic research to get the basic idea, I came across the B550 Tomahawk. People had good things to say about it and it has a button for BIOS flashback in case the CPU I've chosen isn't compatible out of the box and I need to fix that.

CPU

I've chosen the Ryzen 5 5600x as it seems the best for my purposes. I know based on research that AMD Ryzen 5000 series chips are a very good choice for gaming PCs, but I chose this over something with strong single-core performance which I know would be best for gaming since the extra cores will be good for productivity reasons I will use the PC for such as programming and some photo editing.

GPU

Based on what I read, this is where I wanted to spend the most money, so I've chosen to get an RTX 3080 for this build. I know that it is unreasonable to expect to find a 3080 with the state of the market currently, but I'm able to be patient in waiting for the market to calm down and stock to slowly rise again for the performance with ray tracing and in general the 3080 would bring.

Some Final Statements

Like I stated before, I'm very new to this and would love to get any advice from experienced builders. If anyone does read all this and choose to help if you suggest any changes/removals or give any advice please give me the reason you're making the change/removals/advice, as it would be super helpful for me to know where I may have gone wrong and what to keep in mind as I move forward with this. Lastly, I set my budget for this build to be around $2500 CAD, but am able to be flexible by maybe 100-200 dollars. Thanks in advance for any help

I forgot to say, I did actually switch the SSD on the parts list to the Western Digital SN750 as per RedditNeedsHooker's recommendation earlier in the thread. Thanks for the other options anyhow

Wow, this is not only an amazing list but very informative. You've been super helpful to me today, so thanks a ton man.

I think I'm going to use this build but use the SSD I chose, since the SSD is more for other tasks such as programming and for the os, since it'll be much faster and keep it more efficient. Thanks again

Oh, so it's probably better to just wait especially since it'll likely be around then or maybe even later when I'll be able to get a gpu. Would the rest of these parts work with a new motherboard, cpu, and ram or would I have to start from scratch? Hopefully not lol, but probably worth it for the performance boost and future proofing that would bring

I see, is there any sort of timeline for when those would be released, since I have to wait for a gpu anyways I'd be willing to be patient to wait for that and revise this build based on that release. Or would the current gen CPUs still hold up in comparison and run future games good too?

Good to know, will get that done ASAP then. Thanks again for the help, I really appreciate it

So I was looking into the RGB controller tip, it seems that the 3 pack of the corsair LL120 fans come with 2 RGB controllers (1 per pack), would those work or do I need something that will connect all the fans and control them together? If so, do you have any recommendations

This is awesome to know, thank you so much!

I would prefer to build something with RGB, as I like the look of it but also want to keep it clean looking if that makes sense. In terms of the case, if you choose to change that the main two properties I was looking for were good airflow and cable management, which is what led me to the meshify c. Do you recommend I look into other cases that also include RGB?

As for the cooler, I mainly went with the noctua because it is supposed to be very good for thermals while still having good ram clearance to use with the corsair vengeance ram. Although if there is a better one that would fit better with an RGB aesthetic please do let me know

Thanks for your help

It's awesome to know I actually did alright lmao, I was so confused doing this thing. Good to know about the value of Intel, although I think I'll keep the amd for a future ryzen upgrade. Thanks for the tip!
