With the new 11600K being about a 10%-20% increase on average from the 10600K (including productivity and gaming), is it worth the extra £40ish compared to the 10600K? I am coming from a super old AMD A8 6800K, so either one will be a huge upgrade for me. (GPU upgrades will be coming down the line 'cause the market is on fire right now).
In the UK prices are as follows:
10600K: £218.99
11600K: £248.99
For those who say to just grab an AMD CPU, I can't as availability is crap, and the 5600 is wayy out of my budget even at MSRP. I already have a Z490 motherboard ready as I am gathering parts slowly, so it's either 10th or 11th gen for me. I game quite a bit and productivity is second to me, so I don't really care too much as long as I am getting good performance.
An extra thing I'm worried about as well is wondering if the motherboard will need to be updated to work with the 11600K, as I bought it prior to the 11th gen launch. I don't have a spare CPU to do the update with a functional PC, which is making me lean more into the 10600K alongside the price difference.
For those curious about build planning I do plan to fit either a 1660 Super or a 3060/3060Ti. Do bare in mind that I am a secondary school student (doing my finals) and do not have a disposable income, so upgrading from a GTX 780 to one of those will be huge for me. (which is also why I wanna go 10600K for the extra money to go into the other parts).
Any insight to your people's thoughts is hugely appreciated.
