New help with installing a new GPU
Post Body

I will try to be as detailed as possible in this post. If there is something else you need to know I will get that info for you as soon as I can.

On to the problem!

I have a Pre-Built Gateway FX 6860 from 2012

Here is some more info on my PC

Motherboard: acer inc ipisb-vr rev 1.01

  • Intel Core i7 3770 (3.40 GHz)
  • 12 GB DDR3
  • 2 TB HDD
  • Windows 10 Home Premium 64-Bit
  • AMD Radeon HD 7770 2GB

My BIOS mode is legacy

I recently obtained a Gigabyte GTX 1050 ti

I went to change out the card and had the following problem:

  • the first time I booted the computer my gateway symbol (always in the middle) was off to the right with the bios and display options on the bottom. Nothing changed for 10 min so I turned off the computer.

  • the second time I booted, same gateway logo but this time I booted up but with poor resolution, everything was off center and “blown up”. I was able to get to my desktop and download the drivers, which seemed to help bring everything back. Everything was good to go until...

  • ...I turned off my computer and rebooted, this took 10 minutes to do and it was back to being off center and “blown up”. Once it got to the sign in page my display looked this this . I haven’t been able to get it back to normal.

  • since then I put my old card back in and everything is working like it use to.

  • also, side note when it’s booting (for those 10 minutes) there is a beep every 20-30 seconds that sounds like it’s coming from the mobo. However it does not do that with the old card. Also, the card is only powered via the PCI slot, there is not other port for the PSU to plug into. One final thing, I have my display going into my tv.

  • side side note, I do not have any other computer I can test the card in, no friends or family that can help.

I appreciate any help I get from this. Like I said before, I can provide any details you need.

EDIT: I changed my OS

2/24/2021 FINAL UPDATE: apparently with the Gateway FX 6860 you cannot upgrade the GPU. At least within my capacity. I tried everything you find online. But it’s apparently the motherboard this particular prebuilt comes with. It doesn’t like any sort of upgrade
