I currently am in possession of a computer that I built with a Dell Optiplex motherboard and an i5-2400 on a slab of wood with a 1050ti and 8 gigs of ddr3 ram. I also have a 120 gigabyte 850 evo and a 1 terabyte wd blue hard drive. My current idea is to have an i5-8400, 16 gigs of 2666 mhz ram, and a cheap ($60) motherboard because I use my monitor for audio anyways. I would also get a $25-$30 micro atx case to look something like this.
