Post Body

Built my first PC about five years ago, it served me well, time to upgrade. I'm a novice (only done this once before), but considering some minor overclocking this time around and want to be ready if I do. Primarily interested in gaming.

16GB of RAM is set in stone (I know from experience 8GB is not enough for my use). Windows 10 USB is set in stone for convenience, but if you know a cheaper place that'd be great. No additional drives are necessary, I'm reusing my two existing (newer-bought) drives. Same with monitors.

I had constant CPU temperature problems with my current i5 2500k with the stock cooler (even without overclocking after the first round of problems ages ago), so I'm comfortable overbuying a little there for peace of mind.

Biggest question marks are CPU and motherboard. I'm not worried about price but I've seen some remarks that the i7 is not a functional upgrade -- i5 6600k might be a better choice, but I'd love to see what you have to say.

Motherboard I want plenty of USB 3.0 and at least one USB 3.1 Type C, and the Gigabyte board seemed to have the best reviews for meeting those criteria. Lot of motherboards had shaky reviews overall, even commonly referenced ones. Still, I think I might be overbuying.

I won't be buying for about a month, two tops, so I'm also receptive to tips on new releases or anticipated discounts in that time. Price is not a major object, but I don't want to overspend by hundreds unnecessarily either.

Thanks a ton for your help!
