I recently purchased a new SSD, for my year old build, on which I clean installed Win7. After the upgrade I noticed that the System dialog was showing a large disparity in the installed and available RAM. This could have been a pre-existing condition, but I don't believe it was.
The steps I have taken thusfar:
Made sure no maximum memory set in msconfig.
Made sure the two 4GB sticks are in the proper color coded slots.
Installed sticks individually and for 1/2 the system was not bootable. (Leads me to believe that the stick is bad.)
Ran memtest86 with both sticks installed, 8 passes with no problems found.
Checked for a memory remapping feature to toggle in my BIOS, but was unable to locate one.
Is there any explanation other than bad RAM stick for this issue? I'm just trying to do my due diligence before entering the RMA process.
