As someone who’s gamed on potato PCs and devices my whole life, I decided to finally get my feet wet in terms of building a budget gaming computer. Last week, I bought an Optiplex 9020 MT.
My problem is that the system defaults to the Basic Display Adapter and isn’t recognizing the GPU. I’ve tried several driver packs from AMD themselves, I’ve tried reseating the GPU more than once. I’ve tried using DDU and reinstalling the drivers that way. I have NOT tried a fresh Windows 10 install but I’m not sure that will solve my issue anyway. I also have NOT tried replacing the CMOS battery. That’s on my to do list on maintenance. I do have an NVIDIA Quadro K2200 on the way just in case the FirePro just absolutely refuses to cooperate. Right now I have it running through pre boot testing and so far no errors have come up. If anyone has any idea or have dealt with this specific problem themselves please don’t hesitate to let me know. This is driving me up the wall and I really don’t want to be up till 3am again trying to solve this issue.
I am running Windows 10 Pro with 16gb of RAM, the GPU mentioned above and an Intel i7 4790 3.6GHz CPU. It originally came with an i5. I am also using a 1tb SSD for a boot storage unit and am planning to install an HDD for extra storage. Sorry for the long post but I’m hoping to fix this sooner than later.
