Laptop's GTX 1060 MaxQ Upgrade

I'm in need of a gpu upgrade for my dell g7 but I don't know if I should go with an external gpu, laptop upgrade, or something else. I'm looking for something like the 3060/3070 (20-series something pc equivalent for laptops) which looks like it's at around the $300 - $500 mark. I know external gpus are bottlenecked by the usb type c bandwidth so I'm not sure what I should go for if I decide to try that option. Help is appreciated
