What are the most important things to keep in mind when purchasing a new SSD?

Post Body

My current M.2 that I have Windows on is only 240GB, which is not enough for large games like Starfield and Baldur's Gate 3, considering the OS itself and many other applications take up a lot of room. Therefore, I am in need of a new SSD. I'm not very knowledgeable about pc building in the first place though, as I've only done a few upgrades over the years, and none of them have been storage related.

NVMe M.2 drives seems vastly superior in terms of speed than SATA drives, which is why I'm leaning towards getting myself another one, since my motherboard (Asus ROG Strix B450-F Gaming), apparently has two slots. But, my mobo apparently only has support for PCIe 3.0 x4, so I assume that means I can't get PCIe 4.0 x4 SSDs? Before reading the mobo specs I also saw that the model Samsung 980 PRO m/ Heatsink M.2 NVMe SSD 1TB states that it's backwards compatible with PCIe 3.0, so I'm not really sure what to think.

Sorry if I'm not making much sense, but I don't really know much about this stuff. I'm just looking for a good SSD with at least 1TB of capacity that will last for a long time.
