Crash to desktop during benchmarking AMD CPU 7800x3D, MSI Motherboard pro x670-p wifi

Post Body

I recently put together a PC and during intensive graphics applications it's exiting unexpectedly, going back to desktop.

I've given Dirt 4 max setting a go with no issues but repeatedly have both cinebeach exit on GPU test and Cyberpunk exit on its benchmarking. No errors are reported and I can't find any logging.

Specs

  • AMD R7 7800x3D
  • MSI PRO x670-P Wifi - 7D67v1A BIOS -stock
  • G.Skill Flare x5 (2X32GB) - F5-6400J3239G32G
  • Noctua DH-15
  • Geforce RTX 4080 ASUS Strix ROG
  • 1TB 980 Pro m.2
  • PSU Silverstone HELA 1300R.

A closer look at the RAM I have is F5-6400J3239G32G which I'm running this at stock - 4800 MT/s. This RAM is not on the mobo QVL, the closest is the F5-6000J3040G32G

When the PC is running intensive apps - cinebech GPU, Cyberpunk benchmark the application crashes to desktop. My thermals seem a bit higher than I'd like but I understand higher temps are the new normal for the newer higher end chips.

  • CPU. Z-CPU stress test stabilised at 77.3 degrees C at ~69% load, with a peak of 79 degrees C at 98.3% load.
  • GPU 36 degrees C at 62% load.

I don't know the if the crashing to desktop is caused by RAM or high CPU temp or something else yet.My next step is to re-apply thermal paste in the Noctua's recommended layout, blob in the center and 4 smaller blobs near the corners. I'm also going to add Noctua NA-TPG1 thermal paste guard.

Does anyone out there have some advice, tips, probable causes/solutions?
