[Troubleshooting]Overclocking the CPU

Post Body

I'm putting the finishing touches on my build (mostly cable management, location, etc) but the last part is the one I'm debating the most - overclocking the CPU or GPU. I've read the guide on the sidebar, but perhaps I'm missing something but I don't see how that actually helps me overclock. It seems to be an explanation of how things work. Even down further in the guide when it seems to start helping, I just don't get it.

Now you'll notice I have Gigabyte mobo and video card. The Mobo itself comes with an auto-overclock system (Auto-Tune is what the program calls it) - I tried to use this and I just kept getting crash after crash. I think it was trying to push it too far (4.6 GHz) and the stability went to crap. So I reset the BIOS and just went back to normal.

Is there somewhere I could look for a specific guide for my CPU? Or general guides of what would be a good ideal for my video card/CPU? I'm just so lost...

(Note that my machine as it is seems to run most graphically demanding of the games I play - GW2 and Skyrim - at the highest setting without much noise and the heat doesn't get above 60 C. Do I even need to OC?)
