Asking the question above, since I have an opportunity to buy a brand new tower with the i5-12400 processor, 8 GB DD4, power supply, SSD already installed. However, I know that I'd prefer the i7-12700 processor, and just upgrade the RAM and SSD size into an already built out machine. Versus starting a build from scratch. So are the chipset sockets the same, and would not require a motherboard replacement? This is just a general question. I'm not looking to dive into the weeds for what I'm looking as far as utilization of the machine. It's not for gaming, but rather 3D modeling (Revit, Rhino, 3D Printing etc). Not looking to get into a long debate over AMD Ryzen vs Intel, or what my ideal rig needs to be. I just want to know, are the chipset sockets the same for both processors? Yes, I'll upgrade power & fans as needed.
