[Troubleshooting] Computer completely freezing up

Ugh this is getting so annoying. I have spent more time trying to fix my computer, and waiting on fixing it, then I have actually been using it. I just got a hard drive back from newegg and I already have more problems, that i think is related to the hard drive but i just want to make sure before sending it back again.

So the problem is my computer is now freezing completely shortly after start up. Well not completely I can still move my mouse but nothing else works. Clicks don't work, ctrl alt delete doesn't work, nothing besides moving the mouse. It usually starts with a few programs not responding, then all of them, then a complete freeze out, besides the mouse. Only way to get out of it is to restart the computer.

It wasn't this bad at first. It started with just a few programs not responding, which seemed the worse when accessing the hard drive, but would usually clear after a bit. Then i had the first freeze and i restarted the computer but it wasn't starting up past the loading screen. Used my USB with win7 on it to open the repair startup option, it actually didn't work but it did say there was a driver problem but i wasn't paying attention close enough to remember the rest of the information. I unplugged everything as it suggested and restarted and windows loaded up fairly fine. So i figured it was one of the things i unplugged, USB in monitors, USB hub, external drive, and some of the other things i forget. Though i don't know that for sure. Anyways windows seemed like it was working fine but it didn't last and with in a day i had a BSOD, but i missed the error code, and then with in a few hours another freeze and i restarted and almost immediately it froze up again. This time windows actually said there was a problem with my hard drive.

So basically is it a hard drive problem and i need to RMA it again or is there some other cause i should be looking at? Was the driver problem something else that could be causing this? I just want to be sure before i RMA it because i am tired of RMAing and waiting.
