Post Body

Hi! This will be my first build since 2009. It’s hard to believe my last build had the first I7 in it. I’m building this computer for gaming; my goal is to game at 4K/144FPS at mostly the best settings consistently. I’m also hoping to buy a high-end VR set up to go along with this. I have saved up for a while, have a decent job, and this will be a gift to myself. Therefore, I don’t mind spending more for that extra 5-10 percent performance boost. However, I also do not want to spend extra money on parts that make literally no measurable difference at all. I live in the USA.

I tried to do my due diligence and below is my build that I am aiming for. I plan to buy the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D when it releases. Also, I already found and bought the graphics card.

My questions are as followed.

  1. It looks like my ram (42mm) is 2MM higher than the fan (40mm) on the CPU cooler (please correct me if I’m wrong). Would I lose a lot of performance if I moved the fan up 2MM?

  2. Do you think this air cooling set up is enough to keep temperatures in check? I know water cooling the CPU seems to get you a couple degrees on average, but I would rather keep this an all-air build if I can. Please let me know your thoughts!

  3. I watched several reviews on this case, with people raving about it. However, I see mixed reviews on if this case would benefit from a rear exhaust fan. Could anyone provide any insight if its better to add one, or if it would potentially just get in the way.

  4. PC parts tracker and my research says that the ram and memory work with this build. However, I just want to double check and make sure that I chose well. Would love to hear your thoughts on my ram choices and memory.

Thanks in advance for all your help and advice, its deeply appreciate. I’m so excited to play PC games again! I’ve waited a long time to get to a place where this is possible for me. Please feel free to give me any advice on this build. I would really love to hear your thoughts and please let me know if I overlooked something.
