Learnings from offering free resume "roasts"

Kunting vent lang 😅

Last week, I got triggered at work and decided to critique/"roast" resumes for free.

While I enjoyed what I did, I've decided not to open free roasts again after having to deal with these:

  1. A lot of people didn't follow instructions. Out of 100 people who messaged me, ~15 didn't give a screenshot. "Hi can you roast my resume" lang. I replied to the first two pero after that nainis na ako.
  2. "Sana masingit pa" after it has been closed. In line ito sa "not following instructions." 23 people ito and the most recent ay 3 days ago.
  3. Maraming nagbigay ng CV. This isn't a huge bummer for me kasi nga marami talagang nacoconfuse between CV and Resume. Pero dapat may due diligence tayo lalo na as PH Remote Workers. Kahit mag google lang ng "what is the difference between a CV and a resume" 🫠
  4. Only 10 people replied and said 'thank you.' Ang saklap kasi libre na nga di ba? Dito nagalit talaga ang friends ko para sakin kasi I was roasting resumes while we were at a cafe and sabi nila "ang constructive and bait at LIBRE na nga ang criticism mo tapos ginhost ka lang."

Di naman sa nilalahat ko. Pero nakakapanlumo lang na kahit fellow Pinoy underappreciated ka pa rin.

I still have ~50 people and their resumes in my chat requests. Sorry na di ko na kayo matulungan. Instead, check other guides nalang on how to improve your resume. Marami nyan sa Google. Meron pa nga sa Pinned post ng sub na to.

I'm always open to PWYW (minimum 20 pesos) roasts naman if feel nyo talaga na need nyo ng one-on-one critique. Pero di ko na talaga ililibre to kasi nakakain talaga ang oras ko na pang commission sana, considering I spend 10-15 minutes writing down or recording roasts.

Ang tip ko nalang for anyone who decides to do similar charity work in the future is to use Google Forms / Typeform / whatever para ma close nyo talaga after a specific amount of responses is reached. Learn from my mistake 🤣
